You can, it does change the texture a bit though!

I didn’t try using thawed frozen bananas instead of applesauce because I decided they’d probably be too liquid. But I think I will try mashed ripe bananas next time, since that texture is pretty much the same as applesauce, & everyone I know loves the combination of bananas & chocolate.

So I made the recipe as written & it’s very good. Also fairly healthy — a friend who’s diabetic says her blood sugar didn’t rise at all, which I think is due to the oatmeal & applesauce offsetting the sugar in the dough & the chocolate.

I was glad the cookies didn’t spread out too much & I assume that’s because the recipe calls for shortening instead of butter. But I plan to use the butter-flavored Crisco next time, since it has more flavor & I did think these cookies tasted just a little bland.

I do appreciate this nice recipe, including the fact that it makes a lot of cookies!

I guess it’s worth a shot? I’ve never tried it with 4 defrosted bananas in place of applesauce! Let me know how it goes!
