Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are a favorite around our house, so I’m always looking for fun new ways to turn them into an extra-special dessert. Cookie cups feel a little more fun than regular cookies, and I love that you can fill them with all kinds of delicious surprises. I’ve made them with a peanut butter cookie base before, but this time I went with a rich chocolate cookie—and they are SO good.

My kids especially love helping with these. As soon as the pan comes out of the oven, they’re ready to press a Reese’s right into the center of each warm cookie cup. It’s become our favorite little kitchen tradition—and somehow they taste even better when everyone helps!

Recipe Highlights

Chocolate + Peanut Butter in Every Bite – The rich cocoa cookie base paired with a creamy mini Reese’s guarantees the perfect balance of chocolate and peanut butter every single time.

Perfectly Portion-Controlled Treats – Baked in a mini muffin pan, these cookie cups are bite-sized, easy to serve, and great for parties, bake sales, or sharing (if you want to!).

Fun for Kids to Help Make – Pressing the Reese’s into the warm cookie cups is a simple, hands-on step that kids love being part of—making this recipe just as fun to make as it is to eat.

Ingredients for Reese’s Peanut Butter Cookie Cups

Butter – Adds rich flavor and keeps the cookie cups soft and tender.

Sugar – Sweetens the dough and helps create a lightly crisp edge.

Brown Sugar – Adds moisture and a subtle caramel flavor for extra chewiness.

Eggs – Bind the ingredients together and give the cookie structure.

Vanilla – Enhances the chocolate flavor and adds warmth to the dough.

Flour – Provides the structure that holds the cookie cups together.

Cocoa Powder – Gives the cookie base its rich chocolate flavor.

Baking Soda – Helps the cookies rise slightly and keeps them from being too dense.

Salt – Balances the sweetness and intensifies the chocolate flavor.

Miniature Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups – Create the creamy, chocolate-peanut butter center that makes these cookie cups irresistible.

Tips for making the Best Cookie Cups

Measure your flour carefully. If the dough feels overly sticky, add a small tablespoon of flour at a time until it’s soft but scoopable.

Cream the butter and sugars well. Mixing them together for a full 2–3 minutes creates a smoother dough and better texture.

Preheat your oven. Starting with a fully heated oven helps the cookie cups bake evenly every time.

Use a cookie scoop. This keeps all of your cookie cups uniform in size so they bake consistently.

Don’t overbake. The cookies may look slightly underdone when you pull them out, but they’ll continue to set in the pan. Chocolate cookies are hard to judge by color, but 6 minutes before adding the peanut butter cup and 2 minutes after has worked perfectly for me in multiple ovens—just keep in mind that yours may vary slightly.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="819" height="1024" src="https://familycookierecipes.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Reeses-Chocolate-Cookie-Cups-22-819x1024.jpg" alt="Reese's Chocolate Cookie Cups are bite-sized treats made with a delicious chocolate cookie base that is filled with a miniature Reese's Peanut Butter Cup!
How long are these Reese’s Cookie Cups good for?

Reese’s Chocolate Cookie Cups stay fresh in an airtight container at room temperature for about 4–5 days. If your kitchen runs warm, you can refrigerate them for up to 1 week, just let them come to room temperature before serving for the best texture.

Can you freeze these cookie cups?

Yes! These freeze beautifully. Once completely cooled, store them in a freezer-safe container or zip-top bag for up to 2–3 months. Thaw at room temperature for about 30–60 minutes before serving. You can also freeze the unbaked dough balls and bake fresh when needed—just add an extra minute or two to the baking time.

Can I use regular-sized Reese’s instead of mini ones?

Miniature Reese’s work best for mini muffin pans, but you can use regular-sized peanut butter cups if you bake the cookies in a standard muffin tin—just adjust the baking time slightly.

How do I keep the cookie cups from sticking to the pan?

Lightly grease the mini muffin pan or use a nonstick pan, and let the cookie cups cool for a few minutes before gently removing them with a butter knife.

Can I make these ahead of time?

Absolutely! They stay fresh for several days and also freeze well, making them perfect for prepping in advance.

Can I use a different candy in the center?

Yes! While Reese’s are classic, you can swap in Rolos, Hershey’s Kisses, or even a square of caramel-filled chocolate for a fun twist.
