Sour Cream Sugar Cookies use simple ingredients like butter, flour, vanilla, and sour cream for an extra soft texture. Topped with a classic buttercream frosting, they’re perfectly sweet and tender!
In a large bowl cream together the sugar and the softened butter. Then add the egg and the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, combine the sour cream, salt, and baking soda. Stir to combine.
Then add the flour and the sour cream mixture to the butter mixture, beating until smooth.
Chill the dough for several hours. When you're ready to bake, preheat your oven to 375F degrees.
Roll out the dough and then cut with shaped cookie cutters. Bake for 10 minutes.
For the frosting, in a mixing bowl, beat the butter until it's smooth. Slowly add the powder sugar and milk, mixing until combined. Add the vanilla extract to combine well. Add in any additional milk if a thinner consistency is needed.
Spread the frosting on the cookies using a knife, and then top with sprinkles if desired. This frosting can also be piped onto the cookies using a frosting bag. Serve & enjoy!
