Cream Cheese Snickerdoodle Cookies are delightfully soft, thick, and chewy, thanks to the addition of powdered sugar and cream cheese. These unique ingredients enhance these snickerdoodles, making them stand out from any other recipe you’ve tried!

Snickerdoodles are a classic favorite cookie for good reason. Make them with cream cheese and powdered sugar and the texture is even better than the traditional snickerdoodle recipe. These cookies are absolutely melt-in-your-mouth incredible.
What are cream cheese snickerdoodles?
While most Snickerdoodle cookies are made with butter, this recipe incorporates both butter and cream cheese. The cream cheese adds a rich flavor and ensures the cookies remain moist and soft. Using powdered sugar instead of granulated sugar enhances the sweetness and contributes to the tender texture. I genuinely believe these are the best Snickerdoodle cookies I’ve ever had!
Recipe Notes
Just a few things you should know ahead of time:
- Make sure to soften the butter and cream cheese to room temperature and mix them together before adding the other ingredients.
- The dough needs to be refrigerated for at least 1-2 hours, but you can make it up to 2 days in advance and keep it in the refrigerator until you are ready to bake.
- Once you combine the wet and dry ingredients, it is important to mix as little as possible. The texture of the cookies will be more dense and less soft if you overmix the cookie dough.
INGREDIENTS IN CREAM CHEESE SNICKERDOODLE COOKIES
Butter: I use salted butter, but you can use unsalted if you prefer. No margarine! Make sure the butter is softened, but not melted before adding to the recipe.
Cream cheese: This also needs to be softened to room temperature for best results. You can use regular cream cheese or a low-fat or non-fat alternative, but regular cream cheese is ideal for the best consistency.
Powdered sugar: Make sure that you use powdered sugar, not granulated sugar. This is part of what sets these cookies apart from other Snickerdoodle recipes.
Egg: We only need 1 egg, but it is important for helping to bind the dough together so that the cookies cook properly and don’t crumble.
Vanilla extract: You can swap this out with vanilla bean paste if you prefer, but don’t leave out the vanilla!
Baking powder: This is the leavening agent in the cookies, so make sure that it isn’t old or expired.
Flour: All-purpose flour works best, but you can use a gluten-free substitute if needed.
CINNAMON SUGAR TOPPING
Sugar and cinnamon: Mixing sugar and cinnamon creates the perfect coating for the cookie dough.
TIPS FOR MAKING CREAM CHEESE SNICKERDOODLE COOKIES
- Use a cookie scoop to scoop the dough. This ensures that all the cookies are the same size which allows for even baking and creates a professional look for the finished cookies.
- Do not overbake! These cookies won’t turn golden brown and may even look a bit underdone, but that’s ok!
- If you like cinnamon, you can roll each ball in the cinnamon/sugar mixture multiple times to double or triple-coat the cookie dough. You can also add 1-2 teaspoons of cinnamon to the cookie dough if you want to amp up the cinnamon flavor.
