Hot Chocolate Cookie Cups are festive Christmas cookies! Sugar cookie cups filled with fudge, mini marshmallows & sprinkles. Love the candy cane handle! Sugar cookies perfect for the holidays!
These darling Hot Chocolate Cookie Cups are my favorite Christmas cookie ever! They’re super cute, so festive and absolutely delicious. They’re quite easy to make, especially if you have little helpers. Enjoy!

Ingredients for Christmas Cookie Cups
Sugar: Use 1 cup sugar for a sweet, tender base.
Butter: Adding ½ cup butter, softened, ensures even mixing and a moist texture.
Egg: Bind ingredients with 1 egg.
Extract: Enhance the flavors by adding 1 tsp. vanilla extract.
Sour cream: ⅓ cup sour cream adds moisture & balances sweetness and improving the cookie’s softness.
Salt: Use ½ tsp. salt to balance the sweetness.
Baking soda: ½ tsp. baking soda helps the cookies rise slightly, keeping them light.
Flour: You need 2 cups flour for the cookie structure.
Sprinkles: Using 2 TBSP holiday sprinkles gives the cookie cups a festive appearance.
Fudge filling: 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips and one 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk combine into a smooth, creamy ganache. 1 tsp. vanilla extract in the ganache intensifies the chocolate flavor.
Cup decorations: You need 24 mini candy canes for handles, tiny marshmallows, 1 TBSP white chocolate chips, melted, for adhering the handle to the cup.
Note: The tiny marshmallows can be found next to the hot chocolate. If you can’t find the separate containers of them, try the “Marshmallow Lovers” hot chocolate packets. Inside the box the hot chocolate, the tiny marshmallows are in separate envelopes. You’ll need about 2 envelopes for this recipe.

Is it possible to replace semi-sweet chocolate chips with another type of chocolate?
Yes, you can use milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet. Keep in mind that milk chocolate will be sweeter and white chocolate less rich in cocoa flavor. Adjust sweetness if needed.
Can the sugar cookie cups be made in advance?
You can bake the cookie cups up to two days in advance and store them in an airtight container at room temperature. Fill them with fudge just before serving to keep the texture fresh.
Are there any variations to the fudge filling that can be used for these Cookie Cups?
You can swap the fudge filling for chocolate ganache, chocolate mousse, or a cream cheese-based chocolate filling. Each variation offers a different texture but pairs well with the sugar cookie base.
