Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies are made with fresh bananas and chocolate chips folded into a lovely vanilla pudding cookie dough. A soft chocolate chip cookie recipe with lovely bright, fresh flavor from fresh bananas and chocolate.
Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies were inspired by Nellie’s Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe where she used fresh raspberries in her chocolate chip cookie recipe. Isn’t that such a creative idea? I love it! I decided to run with that idea and see what other fruit would be yummy in cookies.
When I came up with these beauties, my family went crazy.
Fresh banana folded into a lovely vanilla pudding cookie dough. They’re soft, sweet and you can’t help but enjoy the banana flavor. Besides, adding fresh fruit into any dessert makes it more appealing to me, and a little bit healthier too!
How to make Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies
First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Mash up the ripe banana. I usually put the banana in a bowl and just use a fork. Cream together the sugar and butter. Add in the eggs, pudding mix, mashed banana, salt and baking soda. Mix until smooth.
Add in the flour 1 cup at a time, mixing until smooth between additions. Stir in chocolate chips.
Scoop the cookie dough and drop onto greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 for 10-11 minutes. Transfer to a cooling rack and enjoy!

What are pudding cookies?
Pudding cookies are cookie recipes made with dry pudding mix as one of the ingredients. The pudding mix adds a lovely flavor and soft, pillowy texture to cookies, even after a few days!
How do you soften butter?
I like to soften butter by using the defrost function on my microwave. If you need the full 1/2 cup cube of butter, you can leave it in the paper wrapper, otherwise, place the amount of butter you need in a glass or porcelain bowl.
I use the lowest defrost setting on my microwave and just let it run for 20 seconds.
Check the butter and see how soft it is by pressing it with a rubber scraper. If it is still not soft to the touch, meaning it doesn’t indent when you press into it, let it warm for another 5-10 seconds. Watch it closely! Butter softens very quickly.
What if my cookie dough is too thick?
If you bake your first batch of cookies and they don’t spread a lot, instead staying in a lump, your cookie dough is too thick. I find the thickness of my dough varies day by day.
The solution? Just add a bit more milk, starting with 2 TBSP and see how it goes. That’s why this recipe says “2-4 TBSP of milk.” Sometimes the dough is perfect with 2 tablespoons, other times it needs 4, or even 5 tablespoons. Just bake 3-4 cookies initially to see how they turn out, then adjust accordingly.
Can you freeze pudding cookies?
Yes, you can freeze pudding cookies in several ways. You can freeze the cookie dough in an airtight container. My favorite way to freeze cookie dough is to first scoop them into cookie balls, then line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and fill the sheet with the cookie dough balls.
Place entire pan in the freezer. Once the dough is frozen, transfer them to a gallon size freezer bag. Dough will stay fresh for up to 2 months. And hello, you’ll enjoy fresh baked cookies as you want them!
You can also bake the cookies and then freeze them. I like to place them in an air-tight container first. I prefer baked cookies be enjoyed within 1 month after freezing.

We had a pretty monumental even happen a few months ago in our family- WE GOT PUPPIES! I’d been so adamantly against getting a pet for so long, my kids had all but given up. I mean, 5 kids! I didn’t want yet another living thing to care for, ha! However, little did they know, my husband and I had finally decided it was time. We’d been researching breeds and scoping out different pet shelters to see what was available.
When we finally told the kids they were elated! It all happened very quickly after that. We found these puppies at a local farm- a real farm, complete with cows and chickens! The very next week we were able to bring them home, and that’s when the real fun began. They’ve actually been very good puppies and have added a level of fun to our family. And hello, aren’t they cute?!

Can the pudding mix be cook & serve? I don’t have instant vanilla pudding, just the cook & serve kind. Will that work out ok?
Jessica says
Both instant or cook and serve work in this recipe!
