Fresh blueberry cookies sound pretty similar to a muffin top but they hold true to their cookie form. Made with a basic cookie dough we get the chewy soft edges and pillowy centers we want while enjoying the bursting blueberries in every bite. There’s no way these cookies will last long as they’re too impossible to resist.
What are blueberry cookies?
These cookies are a fantastic drop cookie recipe. This means that the dough is made, and then literally dropped in scoops onto a prepared baking sheet. No rolling, shaping or chilling required. These homemade blueberry cookies are simple and easy to make, which is good considering how much you’ll want to make them this year, especially when fresh blueberries come off the bushes!
Blueberry cookie ingredients
For the cookies, you will need:
-Butter: ½ cup (one stick) of softened butter. This will give us a much richer taste.
-Sugars: You will need ¾ cup of both brown sugar and granulated sugar for a sweet and chewy cookie bite.
-Milk: Adding ¼ cup of milk will help to get our dough to the perfect consistency.
-Egg: You’ll need 1 egg to help bind the dough together.
-Orange Juice: Adding in 2 tablespoons of orange juice will help the moisture and add so much wonderful fresh flavor.
-Flour: The base of our cookie dough is 2 ½ cups of all-purpose flour.
-Leavening agents: You will need 1 teaspoon of baking powder and ½ teaspoon of baking soda so our cookies rise properly while baking.
-Salt: Adding ½ teaspoon of salt will help to enhance the other flavors in our cookies and really make them incredible.
-Blueberries: You will need 2 cups of fresh or frozen blueberries so that every cookie gets a few.
For the frosting, you will need:
-Butter: You will need 1/3 cup of butter for a rich tasting frosting for your cookies.
-Powdered sugar: 2 cups of powdered guar will sweeten the frosting and keep it nice and smooth.
-Vanilla: Adding 1 ½ teaspoons of vanilla extract will help to make our frosting taste great.
-Milk: You will need 3-4 tablespoons of milk to thin down the frosting to the perfect consistency.
How to make frosted blueberry cookies
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and prep two baking sheets with nonstick cooking spray or parchment paper.
Mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium-sized mixing bowl and then set aside.
In another bowl, beat together the sugars and butter. Add in the milk, egg, and orange juice. Mix again.
Add in the flour mixture half at a time until well mixed.
Gently fold in the blueberries.
Drop the dough by the tablespoonfuls onto your prepared baking sheets.
Bake in the oven for 12-14 minutes or until the edges are a nice golden brown color.
Cool the cookies completely before topping them with frosting.
Make the frosting by beating together all of the ingredients until smooth and creamy.
Spread the frosting over the tops of the cookies and allow to set. Enjoy!
Do I have to thaw frozen blueberries before use?
No, if you opt to use frozen blueberries you do not have to thaw them before use. This means that you can simply mix them in and use them as directed. The berries are small enough that they will thaw and bake as the cookie dough bakes.
How long are fresh blueberry cookies good for?
These cookies should be good for up to a week if stored in an airtight container at room temperature. For the best result, I recommend eating sooner rather than later as these cookies taste best when fresh.

We had a large, sloped unusable section of our backyard that we recently covered with a deck. Best decision ever! We’re out there all the time and LOVE our new space.
My husband recently decided we needed a projector to watch movies outside on the new deck. We had our inaugural movie watching party last night and it was so fun! But it got a bit cold. Ha! Welcome to Spring in Utah.
I turned at one point to see my youngest son like this. Ok, maybe we do need a fire pit as well.
