As we know, snickerdoodle cookies are soft, chewy, and tangy cookies rolled in cinnamon sugar. These cookies are exactly that (and more!) Rolled in a mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger, every bite is a wonderful experience that has you going back for another.
Holiday Spice Snickerdoodle Ingredients
-Sugar: We need 3/4 cups of granulated sugar to get a sweet cookie with nice edges.
-Butter: With 3/4 cup of softened unsalted butter we can add some fats and depth of flavor.
-Egg: One egg will act as the binder for the cookie, but we want the egg to be at room temperature. You can do this quickly by submerging in warm water for a few minutes.
-Flour: With 1 3/4 cup of flour we can get the gluten-filled base the cookie dough needs.
-Baking soda: with 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda we can add the leavening agent that these cookies need.
-Cream of tartar: We need 1 teaspoon of tartar to add the acidic bite and flavor that these cookies are famous for.
-Salt: The flavor enhancer in this recipe is 1/4 teaspoons of salt.
-Vanilla: 1 teaspoon of vanilla will act as a good flavor base for the rest of the ingredients to branch up and off of.
-Sugar for rolling: Combining 1/4 cup of granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon of ground ginger and cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg and 1/8 teaspoon of cloves we can have a flavorful winter spiced cookie.
How to Make Holiday Spiced Snickerdoodles
Cream together the butter and sugar in a large bowl.
Whisk in the egg and vanilla to combine.
In another bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and then whisk to form the dough.
Chill the dough in the fridge for 2 hours.
While the dough is chilling, prepare the spiced sugar mixture for rolling by combining all of the ingredients in a small bowl.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly spray with cooking spray.
Roll the dough into 1 tablespoon-sized scoop and roll in the sugar mixture. Place the dough balls 2 inches apart on the treat. Flatten the cookies slightly so that the cookies ill flatten more while baking.
Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes or until the cookies are lightly golden brown.
Remove them from the oven and then let them cool on a wire rack back to room temperature. Enjoy!
